CS371p Fall 2021: Week of Oct 11th- Oct 17th — William Crawford
1 — What did you do this past week?
I did a compiler assignment on Monday, got stuck on it for a little bit, and then turned it in on Tuesday. On Wednesday, I started work with my game tech group on adding more networking support to the game engine. On Thursday, I started on the OOP project and proceeded to just be confused. On Friday, I woke up early and worked with the game tech team.
2 — What’s in your way?
I have a symbolic programming project that I have to do on Monday. Then I have two midterms on Tuesday (I think). Both of them are for Novak’s classes Symbolic and Compilers. I also have a game technology group project for adding networking support to a game. That project is due on Friday. Then I’m working with Daniel for OOP’s allocator project. We got confused late last week with how it runs, but I think I figured it out.
3 — What will you do next week?
On Monday, I’ll wake up and do my symbolic programming project. Then on Tuesday, I’ll ace two midterms and get back to work on both my group assignments. I’ll probably work on them all week and maybe touch the next compiler assignment on the weekend.
4 — If you read it, what did you think of the Paper #8: Liskov Substitution Principle?
LSP not to be confused with KSP the video game, is another great addition to the chain of design principles of OOP. I was a bit confused when reading it last semester, but now I think I understand that LSP is supposed to guard against all the bugs that will come from sub-classes not implementing near identical functionality as their parents.
5 — What was your experience of arrays and allocator?
Wow, we spent a week with a bunch of crazy stuff. It took me until Friday before I started to understand the allocator project. I feel quite uncomfortable changing operator functionality.
6 — What made you happy this week?
More family in town. (lots of eating out)
More playing video games with friends and dominating noobs.
Continuing to have a nice sleep schedule unlike many of my peers.
7 — What’s your pick-of-the-week or tip-of-the-week?
There was some crazy news this week about politicians not knowing what actually constitutes hacking and a very poorly designed website. I’ll let you read it yourself it you want.
